Building Process, Testing Results, and Modifications
During the build of our compound machine we had several design changes in order to work out the kinks in the functionality. Our original plan was to incorporate a lever into the chain and sprocket system but that didn't work because we couldn't attach the chain directly to the sprocket. What did work however was essentially using two levers geared together to complete the task of moving the can at least two feet.
Final Calculations
IMA of inclined plane = 1.3
IMA of chain/sprocket = 2
IMA of lever (crank) = .08
IMA of chain/sprocket = 2
IMA of lever (crank) = .08
Conclusion Questions
1. For me, the chain and sprocket system had the easiest MA to calculate because you only had to count the strands going against the force which was much easier than the other ones.
2. Finding the MA of the inclined plane included finding the slope of it which made it the most difficult to determine.
3. To measure the input and output forces of our machine, the force to make the machine operate is measured and calculated also included the effect it has on it.
4. If we could make modifications to our machine, we could make a more sturdy base so it doesn't wobble as much and won't risk the chance of it falling. The other thing we could change is how the lever is operated to make the machine work and move the can.
